2025 Vision & Goals

We’re building toward a bold, community-driven future. Our 2025 vision outlines clear, measurable goals to re-energize downtown Taos, from increasing business activity and enhancing public spaces to deepening cultural engagement and expanding local leadership. It’s a roadmap for transformation, shaped by the people who live, work, and create here.

#1 Strategy

An Inclusive,
Vibrant Civic Space

A truly inclusive Plaza District is more than a gathering place, it's a symbol of who we are. When everyone sees themselves reflected in the space, civic pride grows, engagement deepens, and economies grow.

  • Make the Plaza and surrounding streets more welcoming, walkable, shaded, and accessible.

  • Focus on children, elders, and multigenerational design.

  • Collaborate with schools, senior centers, and cultural groups.

  • Host programming that reflects local values and culture.

A New Activity for the Plaza District

#1 Initiative

Meet Me at McCarthy’s

Taos MainStreet is dedicated to making the Plaza district a place of belonging for all generations, honoring the memories of longtime locals while creating new experiences for youth and families. That’s why we launched Meet Me at McCarthy’s, a weekly event inviting the community to explore and enjoy downtown together—on foot, with friends, and even with dogs.

#2 Strategy

A Diverse,
Creative Economy

We’re building a local economy that reflects the values and needs of our community.

  • Support creative entrepreneurs, artists, and makers

  • Prioritize inclusive business development

  • Launch BRIC (Business Resource and Innovation Center)

  • Support from startup to expansion

  • Equitable access to business tools

  • Activate Civic Plaza Drive as an economic corridor

Real Projects, Real Impact

#2 Initiative

Business Resource and Innovation Center (BRIC) - Launching October 2025

Taos MainStreet helps turn ideas into action through partnerships and community investment. The TCA Courtyard Revitalization, funded by a $50,000 T-Mobile grant—is a clear example: transforming an underused space into an accessible hub for art and gathering.

Though still in development, the BRIC (Business Resource and Innovation Center) is designed to support this kind of work. Once launched, it will provide a structured path for businesses and organizations to access resources, build capacity, and bring community-driven projects to life.

TCA received $50,000 from T-Mobile to revitalize Stables/Carriage House Gallery Courtyard, in collaboration with Taos MainStreet and New Mexico MainStreet.

#3 Strategy

Supporting Responsible
Tourism

We aim to ensure that our community is not in service to tourism, but that tourism actively contributes to the well-being of our community.

  • Promote shared stewardship through education and communication.

  • Facilitate fair distribution of economic benefits from tourism.

  • Increase tourism workforce stability.

  • Protect and elevate Taos’ authentic character.

  • Advocate for workforce housing solutions.

  • Promote sustainable mobility for residents and visitors.

  • Promote sustainable tourism practices and resilience to environmental risks.

  • Monitor and manage tourism and its impacts on people and place.

  • Maintain collaborative tourism management and plan implementation.

Destination Stewardship

#3 Initiative

We are Taos, a vibrant tapestry woven from diverse communities. Acknowledging the hard truths of our past, we unite to honor our multicultural heritage and embrace tourism as a catalyst for positive change, benefiting all our communities. Encouraging innovation and preserving traditions, we prioritize authenticity, education, and environmental stewardship. Together, we cultivate a tourism economy that enriches our lives while safeguarding Taos’ heritage for future generations.
